Secretary

I have been a member of Belper BC since I moved to Ambergate 7 years ago, previously with Matlock CC since the late 1980’s having served on the committee there for many years in various roles. I love being on two wheels what ever the bike is. Palmares includes bronze national medal for 24 hour time trialing and Guinness world record for fastest penny farthing from Lands End to John O’ Groats. Somehow I never seem to get up in time for weekend rides but always out on Tuesday evening when possible.

I love the social aspect of the club and you are most likely to see me out on the Sunday and Tuesday social rides. I'm hoping to get into gravel riding over the next year and also the dark art of Zwifting!

Kit Officer

'I have been a keen cyclist for many years and joined Belper Bike Club in 2022. I really enjoy the variety of rides, being with a group of friendly people and stopping off for coffee and cake at lovely cafes!! I started out riding with the Sunday Social group and this helped me to build fitness and confidence. I have progressed to doing Saturday Intermediate rides and completed 60 miles during the autumn Spordax in 2023. As the Kit Officer I get to meet more of the Club Members and help them with orders of Club kit. Its always great to see a group of cyclists out in Derbyshire wearing our club clothing. Belper Bike Club is friendly, welcoming and well organised and my role as kit officer is to support the running of this great club.

This girl can, so can you! I want to ride my bicycle, I’m hoping - you all do too?
I’ve enjoyed cycling since childhood and as a result I have wide and varied knowledge and experience base. I’ve ridden; mountain bikes; road; cyclocross and indoor track. I currently enjoy riding with the Sunday socials.

Never happier than cycling on scenic country lanes! I am predominantly a road cyclist and you will find me on most Saturday morning rides, Tuesday evening rides in summer and Zwift club rides in Winter.

I never thought I was the type of cyclist who would belong in a bike club and yet here I am. I'd always assumed that cycle clubs were all about riding fast and hard but Belper BC is friendly, welcoming and caters for cyclists of all abilities and is very much a social club.

I'm a regular on the Tuesday night rides all year round and occasionally on a Saturday or Sunday as well.

I usually spend my Saturdays in the summer playing cricket, I love a round of golf whether I can and I also enjoy orienteering though I'm not really a runner. Over the winter I play indoor cricket both with my mates and in the national league.

After starting my cycling life as a Mountain Biker, I began road cycling officially on Strava in 2016 and joined the club soon after. I remember my first club ride which involved battling through driving rain across Beeley Moor. I didn't need to worry as Rob Hunt took me under his wing and got me back to Belper in one piece. I love all things to do with cycling and enjoy road, gravel and virtual rides with the club. I am keen to venture back into mountain biking too in the New Year. I am also one of the club Welfare Officers and feel proud to represent and help the members of our amazing club where possible.

Before joining Belper Bicycle Club I was a solo cyclist for some time, but after I moved to Derbyshire I wanted to meet like minded people who share the passion for cycling.
I found what I was looking for in the club and have attended many Sunday rides since joining and haven’t looked back.

As ride representative I wish to pay forward the warm welcome I received to any newcomers to the club to make sure their first experiences are as positive as mine was.

I have been a keen cyclist for many years, going all the way back to my early teens. Originally from Derby, I moved up to Belper in 2015 and joined Belper Bicycle soon after. I have a passion for all things cycling; talking about it, spending money on it, watching it and obviously doing it!

You will generally catch me on the Saturday club rides, but it won’t be strange to bump into me on my own, somewhere in the peaks. My favourite place to ride are the Alps and try to get there most years for a cycling holiday. The only sport where you can play in the same arenas as the professionals.

I love all types of competition in cycling, though I’ve only raced in hill climbs (not very well). There is nothing better than seeing people progressing from leisure cycling to racing and pushing their abilities and skills as far as they can take them.

I look forward to seeing you out on a ride soon!

Bill Cotton

Bill Cotton

Vice-Treasurer/Advisor

I have been a member of our Club since 2007 at which time we had a total membership of 34 and not a single lady amongst them. I am therefore very proud to be able to say I was there to watch the Club develop and grow to where it is now.
I love riding my bike on training rides, Club runs and Sportives but I am not a fan of gravel. My passion is massed start road racing and track racing on the Velodrome and I intend to race as long as there is an age group high enough for me.
I got married at 75 to Maggie, a non cyclist who is even older than I am, I gave her a tandem as an engagement present and we have been riding in tandem ever since. and we love every minute of it, especially when we join our Club mates on social rides and "we never get left behind"

Maggie Cotton

Up to meeting Bill Cotton I had not ridden a bike since my School days, however as chance would have it, Bill presented me with a TANDEM at our Engagement Party at the grand old age of 75 years !
Initially I thought it was joke but once on it I didn’t want to get off !
After our marriage 9 months later, I joined Belper Bicycle Club and was made most welcome. I have since thoroughly enjoyed many social rides. Twelve months later we were riding up Alpe de Huez and Mont Ventoux on a Fund Raising Event. In 2022 we rode 158km (our joint ages, me 82 and Bill 76) to raise money for our favourite Charity, Weston Park Cancer Charity and we raised £4,800.
I am indebted to Bill and all the Members of Belper BC for their friendship, support and encouragement during my cycling experience at my time of life.
My personal approach to life is to live it to the full. As a Christian, my faith is most important and over the years has got me through many difficult times. I now feel I want to give back to those not as fortunate as myself. I am on various Charitable Committees at home and abroad in Nepal.
I enjoy my Volunteering and have been a Games Maker at the 2012 Para-Olympics and believe it or not, I am a UCI Accredited Flag and Whistle Marshall and have worked at the Tour de France, the Tour of Britain and the World Championships when they were held in the UK.
I love all Sport and enjoy Volunteering at all Major Events.
I look forward to being of help to any of our Lady members of our Great Club in my new role and if I can be of any help then please contact me on 07885 346454.
