Autumn Spordax

Wow - I think our brilliant cycling club are now officially selling experiences because yesterday was one of those days where everyone had their own personal experience. I think people ran out of superlatives to describe the day. Some of the words I heard were attritional, biblical, epic, grim, unbelievable, bad, unreal. It was one of those days that will go down in the clubs history as "can you remember when we did THAT ride to the Old Smithy". The Old Smithy rides never disappoint and are always memorable for a

whole host of reasons. Back at the Dev there were lots of tales to be told and loads of smiles and banter. I think we probably had a record number of punctures across the rides. One particular person who shall be nameless had 4 punctures and ended up at Carsington with his frustrated pals - luckily the beer was flowing upon arrival at the Dev. Another person had 2 punctures on the way to eat curry at the Dev. Another person who needs a mention on the flattish trail ride was someone who managed to remain spotlessly clean when his riding buddies encountered a complete mudfest. Some riders got extremely cold in testing conditions in the morning whilst others overheated in the afternoon. We all love our weather but sometimes we cannot fathom the forecast or how quickly things change. It was officially sporting first thing in the morning but the driving rain didn't deter the enthusiasm. From cold driving rain in the morning to beautiful blue skies and sunshine in the afternoon. Special mentions go to everyone who joined in with our day and big respect to those who managed to fully complete their respective routes. One trail rider completed it on a retro mountain bike which was affectionately named as the "Purple Peril". I saw it disappear into the distance up Sheep Pasture Incline. A massive thankyou to everyone who helped in putting on this excellent event. The Devonshire and the Old Smithy did us proud (the glove rack on top of the brazier was a bonus). Look out for the Spring Spordax - where will we go next?

Happy cycling you crazy bunch 🚴🚴🚴💪💪💪🙏🙏🙏🔆🔆🔆

I had a great, fun ride (well me and Phil Colledge did), our two ‘guests’ ran out of their tubes and used ours (6 punctures in 2 bikes) meaning we had to cut short the ride. 4 pints and plenty of curry helped us in the end…..as you say a memorable ride!

Thanks for another excellent event even if I do hate the weather gods!

True Grit! In the mouth, in the Di2, in the Garmin and somewhere else I wont say! You don't think it at the time, but that sort of weather makes it more memorable. Well organised, great company and everyone in good spirits at The Devonshire.

Plus, all day I've been trying to find all day one of these micro mud guards for aero gains.😂
