Unlike the previous two weeks, a much reduced group headed out from the triangle for the historical settings of Calke Abby. Some of the regular riders had gone to recce next week's Spordax, which will prove beneficial in finalising plans, ensuring the safety and expectations of the event. Hopefully, you can join The Club for this event, the details of which can be found here.
The weather forecast promised an unusual spell of warm weather for October, and although we were wrapped up for the start during the ride, layers were shed, and arm warmers were removed.
The ride was scattered with ascents, but the fast, flat sections through south Derbyshire ensured we were soon at the cafe, although battling through cars, cows and extensive gravel slowed the final 500m down. The café stop did not disappoint and the group enjoyed coffee, cakes and savoury snacks.
Back on the road, the speed steadily increased, and aside from the odd aggressive overtaking manoeuvre and oncoming car, the return proved uneventful.
A shout-out to the new Saturday rider, Tom, who said he found the ride fast but enjoyable. Hopefully, he'll be on more Saturday rides as we head into the winter months.
Word to the wise, Watch the gravel at Chalke Abbey.
Good vibes, good rides. #nooneleftbehind
