A belated Saturday ride report.
For this route, and looking at the route profile, climbing was the order of the day, with the destination being Marsh Green Café, which many of the riders out this morning had never been. What a joy they were missing out on. Concerns were raised at the start of the ride, in light of the previous Tuesdays, but the regular riders put most of the group's anxieties to one side, having ridden the group before, although they did highlight that there were a couple of sharp inclines that would catch their breath.
As expected, the route meandered through the Derbyshire countryside, and as expected, we did hit a rather cruel incline and a lane that was, at best, a semi-car track. Uttering and swearing occurred mainly due to the sharpness of this hill, and I believe it approached 20%.
However, we all overcame this obstacle and reached Marsh Green Café and sat outside in the warm sun, where coffee, cake and cobs were devoured. However, some of the group surprisingly enjoyed a whole egg custard between them, 'them' being two and another known from now on as four toast tucked into a hearty carbohydrate-fueled meal of precisely 4 slices of wholemeal toast; good going, sir, good going. Chapeau
The remainder of the ride, although diverting further away from Belper than expected, was excellent. The roads were smooth, although challenging; the final blast down the A6 kept everyone together, even one rider who wanted to start out on the intermediate route. Well done, sir.
We all stayed together and ended up backing Belper aside from those who had to get home early at around 1pm. Plenty of time to enjoy the rest of the day, #NoOneLeftBehind
PS, the route has since been modified; please note. !!!
