Saturday and a trip to a Hall

Finally, a warm Saturday morning greeted the Belper riders as we headed on the ride to Hardwick Hall, which is located on the boundary of Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire with a group leaving at 8am and one at 9am to suit busy days and gigs for some.

The first half of the ride was fast-paced along the A6 until we got to the hills. The route was pleasant enough, but its lumpy nature took its toll, and some of the riders couldn’t quite handle the increasing humidity and heat at such a rapid arrival. We arrived at the pub at the bottom of Hardwick Hall, where scones and what can only be described as a thick chunk of gloopy cake were devoured. The ride back was no less demanding, and although on paper, this ride looked reasonably easy, the consistent ups and downs ensured that no flat sections were apparent, and eventually, they took their toll on the riders. The warm weather was greeted at last, and I didn’t even take a raincoat in case a first for the year land long may it last. Good times, good rides
