Only four cyclists from Belper showed up to ride today. We initially thought that the low turnout was due to holidays and the Euros , but we were wrong. It seems that the riders who didnt show up must have sensed something in the air today.
The ride to Hassop Station was pleasant; the roads were dry, and the weather was cool but manageable. However, on arrival, there was very little attendance for the first time since I’ve been going.
On the way back from Hassop to home, we saw dark thunderclouds behind and to the side of us. Naively, we thought we were avoiding the worst of it. The dark, ominous clouds were over towards Bakewell, so we felt safe. However, as we pedalled through Chatsworth, the slight spitting turned into a drizzle. When we took a short diversion to avoid the A6 and went up Beeley Moor, the drizzle turned into a downpour, and we got completely soaked. Despite the cold and only one of us being in appropriate winter gear, we kept our spirits up, laughing and joking about the state of the British summer. We just got on with the task at hand and headed home.
Despite the weather on the way back, we had a great time and good laughs. #NoOneLeftBehind
