Saturday riders to Darley Moor Cafe

9 riders set out from the Triangle for a pothole adventure to Darley Moor. The ride was front loaded with hills and some dodgy country lanes that have now deteriorated so bad a tweak of the route will be necessary. We were stopped in our tracks with some cattle crossing the road and then had to use our technical skills to steer around potholes and gravel on the descent down Jeb Lane. The group kept together well and were welcomed at the excellent cafe at the Darley Moor circuit. Carl used his charm with the circuit manager and we were allowed to ride a lap of the circuit - a great chance to have over a mile of lovely tarmac and no pot holes. After the cafe we were soon greeted by a treacherous road surface near Marston Montgomery where all riders were lucky to stay upright - a double front and back puncture being the only casualty!

A few riders split from the group for a more direct route home - we all made it safely back reflecting on how worse can the roads get.

I experienced this today. Basically after all the rain we have had over the past weeks has washed a lot of debris on to the road and now the sun has dried it out it’s like a full on gravel ride at times. Quite sketchy at the bottom of sharp descents and plus the infinite pot holes, the roads are in a bat state.

Yes it’s hard to read. I wear photochromic glasses for this reason, but sometimes you just have to take the glasses off to see where you’re going. 🤣

@John Gott climbed Jeb Lane on our gravel bikes last week…more like gravel off-road than some of the High Peak incline 😂
